The Cursed Ghosts of Bhangarh Fort(My personal experience)

The Cursed Ghosts of Bhangarh Fort

The ancient Indian fortress and city of Bhangarh is so haunted that the government of India has made it illegal to enter it after dark. Warning signs are placed around the fort and ruins prohibiting entrance between sunset and sunrise. The fear is someone might be harmed. The history and stories about this fortress are irresistible.

The fort is located in northwest India in Rajasthan state in a valley surrounded by mountains.

The fortress was first built in 1573 under the rule

of Raja Bhagwand Das as the residence for his second son Madho Singh. Madho participated in many battles with his brother and father. The next ruler of Bhangarh was Madho’s son Chhartr Singh. After Chhartr's death in 1630 Bhangarh slowly declined. Some say this was due to famine or plague but others point to various myths or legends as the reason why the Bhangarh Fort and city were abandoned never to be re-inhabited.

One myth states that Guru Balu Nath who originally sanctioned the construction of the fort cursed Blangarh. At the time he granted it he had one condition, which was that no building in the city should be high enough to cast a shadow large enough to reach his retreat. He warned if they ever did he would curse the city. Ignorant of this warning, a descendant prince Ajab Singh raised the height of his palace, which then cast a shadow on Nath’s forbidden retreat so he cursed the area.

Another well-known myth is about the Princess of Bhangharh, Ratnavati. She at the age of eighteen was very beautiful, it is said no others compared. She began to get marriage proposals from various nobles around the region. This legend states that a magician (tantric—versed in the occult) by the name of Singhia was also in love with the princess but he knew the match was impossible so he decided to use his black magic to win her.

One day Singhia spotted the Princess Ratnavati’s maid in the market buying perfumed oil for her mistress. It is stated he put a spell on this oil. But the princess saw him cast the spell and foiled his plan by throwing the oil on the ground. As it struck the ground it turned into a boulder, which crushed Signhia. The legend states as he lay dying he cursed the palace—stating whoever dwelled inside would die. The very next year a battle was fought between Bahngarh and Ajabarh in which Princess Ranavati died

Most myths surrounding Bhangarh state the reason for the cities demise was because it was cursed. They all go on to state that ghosts haunt Bhangarh as well. This belief is not just based in local folklore. In fact, Bhangarh is considered the most haunted spot in southern Asia today. For this reason the India Government at one point tried to dispel this belief by having Indian military troops patrol the fort and city at night. But the belief the fort is haunted runs so deep these troops balked at this idea-- flat out refusing to do the patrols.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) that is responsible for maintaining the fort and surrounding ruins also recognize the fact that the area is haunted. They built their offices a good mile away from the area—all other sites they manage around India have their offices within the protected area but at the Bhangarh Fort they state they wanted their headquarters at a safe distance.

Even though the fort is completely deserted at night, many witnesses have stated that they feel a distinct uneasiness while near the area. Strange noises are often reported. Among them are reports of music and dancing coming from within the city and fortress. Some locals feel that one spirit that haunts the area is that of the magician Singhia. It is said that during the day he watches Bhangarh Fort from a nearby hill but that at night he comes down in search of his beloved princess.

Here is a rough translation for one of the Hindi signs that warn visitors that they cannot enter the fort at night:

“Entering the borders of Bhangarh before sunrise and after sunset is strictly prohibited. Legal action will be taken against anybody who does not follow these instructions.”

FOR ME AND MY TEAM... IT WAS AN EXPERIENCE FOR LIFE LONG.. YES WE ALSO FOUND THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS PLACE... THE GUARD WHO WARNED US  AFTER THE SUNSET THAT GET OUT FROM THE FORT IT'S NOT SAFE FOR YOU PEOPLE.AFTER MANY ENQUIRIES WE CAME TO KNOW FROM VILLAGERS THAT THERE WAS NO GUARD HAD APPOINTED  EVER  AND MILITARY ALSO WALKED OUT FROM THE FEAR.

SUDDENLY THE WEATHER CONDITIONS CHANGED,THE CLEAR SKY WITH MOON AND STARS WAS COMPLETELY BECAME VERY DARK  AND WE FACED A VERY BAD THUNDER WITH STRONG LIGHTNING.

WHILE COMING OUT  FROM THE PLACE WE SAW THAT THERE WAS A HUGE LOCK ON THE GATE .. BUT NO CLUE  WE FOUND THAT WHO LOCKED THE DOOR ,WHEN OUR CARS AND DRIVER JUST WAITING FOR US OUTSIDE  AND EVEN THEY WERE ALSO NOT AWARE BUT THEY WERE SURE THERE WAS NO ONE WHO CAME OUT FROM THE GATE.
. I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO DARE TO JUMPED OUT .SO ALL THE WAY I DARE TO CLIMB UP THE GATE  HOLDING POINTED STRINGS AND JUMPED OUT ON THE ROAD SIDE
(THANX TO MY NCC TRAINING TEACHER.. THAT MY TRAINING BECAME USEFUL)

MY TEAM,POOR PEOPLE .THEY ALL  WALKED DOWN THE JUNGLE AREA  APPROX 6 KM, AND FOUND SOME SMALL CAVE TO CAME OUT FROM THE FORT.

AFTER THAT EVERYONE'S MOBILE NETWORK WERE LOST ACCEPT MINE..AND I WAS LIVE WITH MY MOM..WAS GIVING HER LIVE UPDATES.

AFTER THAT WE SAW  THE HOARDING .WHERE HALF OF US SAW THE ALWAR  WAS MARKED RIGHT AND HALF PEOPLE SAW ON LEFT.

AFTER HUGE DISCUSSION WE WENT TO THE LEFT MARK. AND AFTER 25KM WE SAW THERE IS NOTHING ACCEPT SOME CAMP FIRES .
WHEN WE WENT NEAR BY WE CAME TO KNOW IT IS WAS 'CREMATION GROUND" WHERE FEW BODIES WERE BURNING NOT THE "CAMP FIRE"

WE RETURNED BACK FROM THE DEAD END AND WE CAME BACK AGAIN AT THE MAIN GATE OF "BHANGARH FORT" WE WENT LITTLE FORWARD TO SEE THE SIGN BOARD AGAIN THAT WHERE IS THE ALWAR IN WHICH DIRECTION?

AND WE ALL WERE  HORRIBLY  SHOCKED WHEN WE SAW THAT THERE IS NO SIGN BOARD.EVEN. AND HOW COME ONLY MY NETWORK IS WORKING AND NO ONE ELSE"EVEN THEY WERE HAVING THE SAME  CONNECTION.?

AFTER SAW THAT WE ALL GOOSE BUMPED BY THE ACTIVITY... AND WE WERE 6 PEOPLE ON THE SILENT HIGHWAY. AFTER THAT WE REACHED AT "ALWAR BAGH RESORT" 3 AM IN THE MORNING AND WAS BIT RELAXED.

IN THE MORNING  MY MOM CALLED ME TO KNOW  HOW I AM AS MY NETWORK WAS NOT REACHABLE.. AND I SAID TO HER "R U KIDDING WITH ME I WAS LIVE WITH  YOU ON PHONE AND SHE SAID" NO ME AND PAPA WERE TRYING YOUR MOBILE BUT IT WAS OUT OF NETWORK AREA. AND SHE WAS SERIOUS AND WORRIED BUT GOT RELAXED AFTER LISTENING MY VOICE.

AFTER THAT I WAS PAUSED FOR 10 MINS ATLEAST AND LOST COMPLETELY...

WE TOLD THE WHOLE INCIDENT TO THE OWNER OF THE RESORT AND HIS WIFE TOLD ME ..

" U WERE THE ONLY GIRL NA" WITH THEM.." GOOD THAT U TOOK THE SMART DECISION AND CAME OUT FROM THE CAVE AND U JUMPED OUT  QUICKLY. GOOD THAT U ALL CAME HERE.... SHE WAS ABOVE TO TELL ME MORE BUT HER HUSBAND GAVE HER "EXPRESSION AND SHE WENT BACK TO HER ROOM.
.

But her words left me thinking that Is the

Bhangarh fort more dangerous for girls…

than for boys if it is so than why? Well I

didn’t got a logical answer till now.

Though I don’t l believe fully in that aunty's

words but Still I personally advices girls

to don’t stay at the Bhangarh fort at

night no matter how daring you are.

Life lessons Learnt # 1 - Value yourself

I'm starting a series of posts titled ' Life Lessons Learnt'. These are from my own personal experiences or inputs I got from closely observing other's lives - whatever, it is purely my reflections. These won't teach you to take life by its horns, but will definitely make the journey less tumultous. In an ideal world, we just have to follow our heart. And our hearts tell us the best of things, if only we listened. I believe that the first person ( as in human) who comes to know when we err is ourselves. Others notice much later. Our conscience gives us the best advice. But unfortunately we don't live in an ideal world. Following our hearts can be naive and even invite trouble. In a selfish world, these lessons will come extremely handy. And these are just to remind myself when I forget them. And I'm just a novice. So your comments can be extremely useful to me. You can agree, disagree, criticise or compliment. Whatever it is, do feel free to express .You will never be judged. I will probably write other posts along with it.

Life lessons learnt # 1 - Value yourself

This is the most important lesson I learnt in life. You may have everything else in life, but inner happiness can stem from only valuing urself. Money, luxuries, love - nothing can get you happiness if you lack in self esteem. Absolutely no one will value a person who doesn't value himself. How can you expect someone to value you when you don't value yourself? Remember, everyone likes a pushover, but truly respect only one with some selfrespect. So bending backwards to accommodate an unreasonable friend, compromising your values to be in the good books of a boss and losing your individuality for a spouse is a strict No-N0. Well... life requires u to compromise. And there are many happy compromises as well, where u willingly give in to another. But wherever your deeply held beliefs are concerned, you should never budge. U may be tagged as stubborn. But it doesn't really matter as long as u are true to yourself. As the saying goes " It does not matter what others think about u. But what u think about urself matters a lot". So yes, value yourself and be the person you would respect.
